Best Picture Watch: The Birth Of A Nation Trailer

More Oscar previews coming soon, but the trailer for The Birth of A Nation dropped yesterday. With Cannes just around the corner and summer almost here, the Oscar race is officially getting started. There have been some early contenders making noise at festivals already, so it will be interesting to see which ones have the legs to make it all the way this year.

The Birth Of A Nation made headlines when Fox Searchlight Pictures purchased it for $17.5M out of the Sundance Film Festival in January. Nate Parker's passion project deals with Nat Turner's slave rebellion in 19th century Virginia. From the last couple of years of #OscarsSoWhite to the weighty subject matter, this is a safe bet to be one of the most talked about films of the year.

In theaters October 7 Set against the antebellum South, THE BIRTH OF A NATION follows Nat Turner (Nate Parker), a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner (Armie Hammer), accepts an offer to use Nat's preaching to subdue unruly slaves.
